AFA 2015 National Practitioner Roadshow

In July the Association of Financial Advisers hosted its annual Practitioner Roadshow series, at x locations around Australia. The theme for this year was Connecting Knowledge with Performance, and the sessions focused on delivering key insights about the changing face of the advice sector and real life examples of best practice advice.

AFA COO, Phil Anderson, provided an overview of the regulatory landscape, with a particular focus on the life insurance reforms. These were also covered during a Q&A session at the conclusion of each event, designed to give advisers the opportunity to delve into the detail of the then just released Life Insurance Framework.

Brendan Cox, General Manager of Complete Financial Balance, which was last year named the inaugural AFA Practice of the Year, told attendees about the importance of team work and culture when building a business. He reminded advisers that a company vision is worthless if the business leaders don’t continually reaffirm it through their actions.

The central sessions of the Roadshow program were devoted to special guest speaker, Dr David Lazenby, who introduced advisers to the concept of finology (see our feature story for more on this topic).

Rounding out the program were presentations from the 2014 Female Excellence in Advice and Adviser of the Year winners, Kate McCallum and Eleanor Dartnall. In relating their background and career journeys, both Ms Dartnall and Ms McCallum shared insights with their peers about their approach to their clients and the nature, content and format of the services each delivers.
