Professionalism, international opportunities and advice regulation were some of the key themes discussed at this year’s Financial Services Council (FSC) Annual Conference.
The three day event was held at the Cairns Convention Centre from 6-8 August, attracting an audience of financial services executives and industry consultants. Delivered under the banner ‘Accelerate’, attendees were treated to presentations from a range of local and international speakers addressing key industry challenges and trends.
Among the event highlights were:
- A panel session featuring representatives from the Department of Treasury, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and Australian Prudential Regulation Authority
- Shadow Treasurer, Chris Bowen, talking about his party’s agenda for financial services
- Author and sociobiologist, Rebecca Costa, on the impact of big data on the human condition
Stream sessions on advice and insurance also proved popular, and included discussions about the role of life insurance in reducing rising social disability welfare costs, how to create an advice profession, and whether vertical integration is good for consumers.
